The Independent Schools Microelectronics Centre was set up at Westminster College, Oxford by the Headmasters Conference (HMC), the Girls Schools Association (GSA), the Incorporated Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS), the Society of Headmasters of Independent Schools (SHMIS), the Independent Schools Association (ISA), and the Conference for Independent Further Education (CIFE).

39 Technology at Brentwood — by Richard Millwood — last modified Feb 25, 2026 11:53 AM: "This paper describes how Brentwood School are incorporating aspects of micro technology within the life of the school. They are using a design based, problem solving approach which serves to bring together applications in both science and the arts This paper has been specially written by Alan Robinson, who is head of the Applied Science and Technology Department at Brentwood School. The Centre is grateful to him for his contribution. July 1984."

The archive is directed and maintained by Richard Millwood of Core Education UK supported by Sandra Crapper, Maureen Gurr, Margaret Cox, Nick Rushby and Joy Hooper. The British Educational Suppliers Association (BESA) were archive sponsors in 2008 and Becta were sponsors in 2009. Much of the archive was gathered in the years 1990 - 2006 by Prof Stephen Heppell with Richard Millwood and stored at Ultralab at Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford. In its early days it was catalogued by Greta Mladenova and in 2006 Rex Wingate helped to organise the items in store. More recently, since 2011, Doreen Wright, Nick Rushby, Chris Monk and Joy Hooper have been helping catalogue the materials and develop policies.
