New Opportunities Fund

The People's Lottery Whitepaper (Cm3709) published by Dept for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) 21st July 1997, outlined the creation of a New Opportunities Fund to improve Health - network of healthy living centres, Education - ICT training and support for 500,000 teachers and 10,000 public library staff plus establishment of out of school hours activities and eventually the Environment. Included the establishment of NESTA (National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts) - later to become FutureLab

The archive is directed and maintained by Richard Millwood of Core Education UK supported by Sandra Crapper, Maureen Gurr, Margaret Cox, Nick Rushby and Joy Hooper. Much of the archive was gathered in the years 1990 - 2006 by Prof Stephen Heppell with Richard Millwood and stored at Ultralab at Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford. In its early days it was catalogued by Greta Mladenova and in 2006 Rex Wingate helped to organise the items in store. More recently, since 2011, Doreen Wright, Nick Rushby, Chris Monk and Joy Hooper have been helping catalogue the materials and develop policies.
