A TESTING TIME FOR mGBL GAME PROTOTYPES!

by Alice Mitchell last modified Friday Nov 24, 2006 20:40

The first mGBL game prototypes are tested in user trials.

The Mobile Games Based Learning Project (mGBL) seeks to contribute new types of learning game to the mobile games sector. These are designed to support young adults in developing decision-making skills for critical situations, an EC priority concern. Our vision: true games that can effectively engage users in cognitive and affective learning and that contribute to best practice in an emerging field. This month our early design ideas were trialled by young adults in Austria, Croatia, Italy, Slovenia and the UK. The most advanced of these prototypes is: ‘On the Edge’, a hybrid game model for mGBL that shares characteristics of board, strategy and role-playing games, and acts a ‘games container’ with tools for users.
