Carole Chapman Profile

Carole Chapman Profile Description
Working life
I joined Ultralab in 1993 after 20 years at senior management level in the teaching profession.

Following a seven year project on new learning environments in schools (LiNM), and my work on online learning communities (I was a member of the core Ultralab team designing think.com and working on Schools Online), I was asked in 2001 to head the development, design and implementation on the new National Professional Qualification for Headship online element (Virtual Heads).

Since its formation in 2002 I have been advising the newly formed National College of School Leadership on the development of online learning communities, and working with the Commission for the Built Environment on physical learning environments.

At Easter 2004 I took over responsibility for co-ordinating the 'Every Object tells a Story' project which is run in partnership with the V and A and Channel 4 and sponsored by Culture OnLine.

I present and write extensively on physical and virtual learning environments.

Social life
I have three children and the family passions are skiing and sailing. Having sailed dinghys for years (my son sails a 49er and my daughter a 470) we brought a 37 foot Oyster (Cracker) five years ago. It takes nine people to sail her and my job is navigator. I especially enjoy the team work sailing Cracker involves.
