ITTE was set up in 1986 and while having a general brief to ‘promote the education and professional development of teachers and....to improve the quality of teaching and learning with ICT', it has had a niche role in supporting the initial teacher training lecturers of universities and colleges of education. ITTE members have networked with comparable international organisations, most directly with SITE, the IT in education arm of the Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE) in the USA.
