The development of educational computing in the UK began in the early 1970s. This has resulted in a wealth of knowledge, experience and artefacts. The Advisory Group on Computer Graphics (AGOCG) was an initiative of the Joint Information System Committee (JISC) of the Higher Education Funding Councils and the Research Councils from 1988 to 1998. It provided a single national focus for computer graphics, visualization, multimedia and virtual environments within the UK higher education community and was concerned with the handling and processing visual information in all its forms.
