Playing for Success (PfS) was a national initiative established in 1997 as a partnership between the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), local authorities and the FA Premier League and their clubs. It expanded to include a broad range of sports, resulting in 18 different sports represented in PfS by 2008. Through Playing for Success, the DCSF and partners established study support centres within sports clubs' grounds and sporting venues. The centres open out of school hours and cater mainly for pupils aged between 10 and 14 who need extra help with their literacy, numeracy and ICT skills. The aim is to utilise the motivational environment of the sports clubs to encourage learning. http://www.playingforsuccessonline.org.uk/ NfER have produced a series of national evaluation reports on PfS http://www.nfer.ac.uk/publications/ Playing for Success is a national initiative, established in 1997 by the Department for Education and Skills in partnership with the FA Premier League and their clubs, and local education authorities. Since then it has expanded to include a wide range of professional sports, including cricket and rugby.
